The Expobar Office Lever is a compact, traditional-style heat-exchanger machine with commercial levels of strength. We think it’s a step up from the other Office machines, with its all-over use of stainless steel, as opposed to a combination plastic-stainless look, and the addition of pressure gauges. As a heat-exchanger, the Office Lever is capable of simultaneous brewing and steaming through Expobar’s reimagined E61 group head, which uses a thermosyphon throughout the brew circuit to ensure temperature stability, and an integrated concave pre-infusion chamber for evenly saturated extractions. We’re particularly fond of the brew pressure and boiler pressure gauges, which allow you to monitor each while pulling shots. Internally, the machines are made up of high-quality components, switches and controls, most notably the electronic boiler refill control, which acts as a brain of sorts, refilling the boiler each time it nears empty. To remove refills altogether, the Office Lever Plus model offers a plumbability option for even greater convenience.
Upon flicking the switch, the boiler will heat up to brew temp, as designated by both the indicator light and the pressure gauge reaching 1 bar. Raising the brew lever controls a valve in the brew group: up activates the pump and opens the valve to allow water to flow through the grounds; down opens a valve that relieves the water pressure from the coffee. The Expobar Office Lever is compact, and perfect for the serious home, office or small cafe barista. Also part of Expobar’s Office Line are the Control, which offers programmable volumetric brewing at the press of a button; the Pulser, which is similar in looks and operation to the Control sans programmable buttons; and the Office Lever Plus, which adds a plumbability option to all the great features the Office Lever already boasts.
Redesigned E-61 Group Head
A standard E-61 group constantly syphons water from the boiler to the group and back, but Expobar raised the bar by adding a pre-infusion chamber located above the shower screen. This innovative addition evenly distributes hot water over the grounds for a uniform saturation during pre-infusion and throughout the brewing process.
The 1.7 L heat-exchanger boiler has an internal chamber that houses the brew water, while the steam is cordoned to the surrounding chamber, preventing them from coming into contact. This design heats the brew water and allows for simultaneous brewing and steaming.
Manually Adjustable Brew Pressure
For the explorative baristas, the Office Lever offers the ability to easily change its brew pressure by adjusting the OPV, or over pressure valve. This allows the user to experiment with various pressures on the hunt for that elusive perfect shot.
Boiler Pressure Controller & Gauges
This controller automatically senses drops in pressure within the boiler and kicks the heating element on, which is visually represented on the pressure gauges. These gauges also make it easier to tell when the Office Lever is up to temp and to monitor extraction parameters during brewing.
